As our Director of Tax, Mike has been providing expert advice for Bryden Johnson clients since 2002. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Tax Adviser. He brings a breadth of skills and an innovative approach to his subject. The skills that Mike brings to a complex subject are ones of originality alongside a lateral thinking approach. He is not afraid to embrace technology and new ideas. Mike is a regular contributor to the national technical press and has an inventive and imaginative approach as the presenter of seminars and workshops on tax matters.
He started his professional career with the London office of Coopers & Lybrand where he qualified mainly doing audit work. He moved to their Guernsey office, where he switched roles specialising in running offshore structures for clients. This was the start of an interest in tax planning. Since returning to the UK in 1985, he has worked solely in the tax field, advising small and medium enterprise proprietors whilst maintaining a keen interest in capital tax planning and offshore matters. Mike had previously been a partner in other small accountancy practices before he found his niche within Bryden Johnson.
He is married to Jeanette with a 17-year-old daughter Louise and they live locally in Kenley. Mike is a keen sportsman, regularly keeping fit in the gym and occasionally as a triathlete. He also plays off a 12 handicap as a member at Purley Downs Golf Club. Skiing and scuba diving are favourite holiday pursuits and other less energetic interests are listening to a wide variety of music and experimenting with food and wine.
